it is happening in the hillside park neighborhood of daly city. that's where christie smith joins us live with a look at the cleanup efforts. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. the streets are surprisingly clean this morning. we are standing in hillside park which is still caked under about three feet of mud. now that it is getting lighter out here i want on show you what we saw in the corner of the park. you see there, the top there, that is actually a picnic table. that shows you how much mud is still here. concern, though, is what's going to happen to all of this and the hillside behind it when the heavy rains hit. cleanup will continue today and engineers were actually up on that hillside checking its stability yesterday after a huge section gave way when a water pipe broke, spilling about 45,000 gallons of water, sand and mud into the streets. 12 homes were evacuatie and mud into the streets. 12 homes were evacuativacuated. unfortunately the mud and water didn't get in those homes but cars were caked in at least two to three feet

it took all day yesterday to clean the mud out, the mud invaded this neighborhood in daly city about 4:30 in the morning when a pipe broke and 45,000 gallons of water came rushing in, mud coated the streets. now the concern is the rain in the forecast for later this week and what that will mean for this waterlogged hillside in this neighborhood. >> worried about another avalanche. worried if it rains and comes down again there will be major flooding. >> reporter: homes were evacuated yesterday not because of damage, the homes were fine, but because officials were worried the hillside might go. they allowed them back in, people are now nervous especially with that rain coming. city officials will spend the next three days putting hay and sandbags out to absorb the water and any debris that tries to come down that hillside again. they want to have it winterized and ready to go before the storm gets here. if people did -- the people who did have damage to their cars here from all of that mud, can file claims with the city and are encouraged to do so right away probably today to get the

i don't think we'll see flooding rains for those folks in daly city but i wouldn't park on that street again for a while. yeah, looks like a dry day today but this is it. we are going to head back into very wet pattern now in the bay area. outside right now, it is a quiet start to the morning some temperatures dropping off, 37 degrees in santa rosa, 38 in fairfield, 41 in livermore and 43 degrees in san jose. as we look toward the afternoon, some changing weather. it will be some mild temperatures but look at these spiraling clouds off the coastline. that is that area of low pressure slowly working its way in our direction increasing clouds throughout the day today. and then it looks like overnight tonight, into tomorrow, rain becoming more likely. so more clouds out there not as warm as we head toward the afternoon today but not bad. still pushing 70 degrees in some of the warmest spots. but this is it, folks. the last dry day. we have some wet weather even a stronger storm over the weekend. we'll have more on that in a moment. right now let's check the roads with elizabeth. >> betwee
